Letting work speak for itself

I‘m not a blogger. Nor I’m one for social media interactions. Those are really hard for me. This small post, for example, was sitting on my desktop for a week, before I mustered enough courage to upload it. So it is ironic, considering these days social media is a must for an author. Or at least that’s the truth successful authors and help books acknowledge as necessity.

Success is a relative term, of course, but I’d love to experience at least some of its variations.

Truth be told, the dream of becoming an author was born after I published my first, and right now (still) my only book. Writing had always been my way of recharging, expressing myself creatively, not to mention getting rid of those pesky voices inside my head. But that was it. I had no aspirations for it to become anything more. The thought never crossed my mind.

The reason is simple: I was taught from a very young age that only certain professions are worth pursuing. Other things can be hobbies, at most. I believed that. I graduated with Master’s degree in Computer Science, for goodness sake.

As they say, there’s none as blind as those who won’t see. Well, thanks to my husband, I do see now. He encouraged me, even hired an editor. That’s how my journey to becoming an author began.

It’s a rough and bumpy road to be sure. Moreover, just because I published a book, I don’t consider myself an author. I mean nowadays anyone can publish and thousands, maybe even more, do so. Not to mention that I can’t quit my day job, or I would starve to death. So writing is still just a hobby, even though it’s a dream that is now etched into my heart.

All I know is that whatever the course, I’ll keep on writing; hopefully growing, and becoming better in the process.

As for social media interactions... there are other paths to achieving one’s goals. There must be. Longer, probably, but I do believe in letting work speak for itself.

The pages of my book are filled with characters that are a part of me. Those pages hold my heart, and that is what I concentrate on. That is who I am.

Now back to my WIP. The characters are waiting.

I write books I would love to read with fantasy worlds I would like to be a part of. Where anything is possible, but nothing more magical than love.
