One would say this shouldn’t be a question at all – they do what you tell them to do, when you tell them. They are the fruit of the author’s imagination after all. And yet…
When I began writing Forged in Fire I had an interesting conversation with Ciaran (the hero). It went something like this: Ciaran: What do you think you’re doing? Me: ??? Ciaran: You need to stop or I won’t be responsible for my actions! Me: I still don’t understand what the problem is. Ciaran: My book – more specifically, my heroine. That’s what the problem is! Me: You’ll like her, I promise. Ciaran: Riiii-iight. A demoness who is referred to as the Green-Eyed Monster. By everyone in the entire Underworld. What’s not to like? I don’t see this ending well for me. I really don’t. Me: You don’t need to see it. All you need to do is trust me. Ciaran: Last time I trusted you, I ended up in Hell, of all places. Sorry if I’m not jumping off the cliff. Again. I lost everything: my siblings and the life I had. I’ve been subjected to one bad situation after another. I watched my freedom being taken away and I didn’t say a word. I endured it because I couldn’t let that demon harm my newborn nephews. But everything has its limits. I may have given my freedom, but not my dignity. Isn’t that enough for you? Me: No??? [I ask a bit sheepishly.] Ciaran: That’s it. I quit! Me: I only accept handwritten letters of resignation. Ciaran: And where do you suppose I find a pen and paper in the Underworld? Me: [Trying not to laugh…] [Ciaran storms out.] I'm mean, I know. But this was actually really fun – and believe it or not, that’s how I got to know him. Ciaran wasn’t keen on sharing his feelings with me (if I only knew why :D ), but he argued throughout half of the book; until I discovered what was inside him and he discovered that he should trust me! Now, let’s just hope he won’t mess up all my hard work.

When it comes to food, I hate spicy. There is a number of dishes I would never put into my mouth, yet it takes a Herculean will to walk by a donut shop and not stop. But when it comes to romance – I demand spice!
I want to see the passion between characters burning the pages of the book, or melting kindle devices. And that’s what I write. Yet it’s not about the act itself, it’s about the intimacy. It’s about being vulnerable and showing a side that otherwise the reader wouldn’t see. I try not to use love making for the sole purpose of showing it. No. Every time my characters are together – it’s some kind of a stepping stone in their relationship. It exists because the story without it wouldn’t be complete. Because they decided they need it, and I’m simply the voyeur who puts it on paper. Alright, that sounded weird. But you know what I mean. When it comes to romance – spice is a MUST! Don’t you agree?
On another note, the Blog Tour of Forged in Fire continues, and you still have a chance to win $25, $10 or $5 amazon Gift Card!
The full list of blog stops is here, but today I wanted to share one particular stop - Marsha A. Moore's blog - where I talk about how hard (or easy) it is to argue with fictional characters. Enjoy!
Today marks the beginning of Forged in Fire two week book tour! Spotlights, interviews, fun posts, a giveaway, and much more - you don't want to miss a single stop. (In the end of this post I'll list all the stops.)
And since I'm inviting you to descend to the Underworld (where the story is set), I thought it would only be fair to give you a tour first. We'll start small - you really don't want to be running around with no clue as to where you are. It might prove hazardous to your health. And since I don't want anything bad to happen - I'm afraid insurance might not cover being eaten by hellhounds - I'm giving you a guide, and a protector. Meet Ciaran. Someone chose to come here? Voluntarily? Well, at least I'm not the only one crazy here. Just don't try to swim in the Faron River - I might not be able to save you if you did. It's liquid fire. I had that pleasure once before, and I'm not eager to repeat it. Now, I see the map of my current "home". Fun place, what can I say. You can come to watch a fight, make a bet, select a lover - it's an entertainment center. If you are a demon that is. You are not? Well...uhm... keep your head down, don't make eye contact; but if someone tries to mess with you - punch them. Swords and daggers work too. Or a good kick. That reminds me - I hope you packed a few warm clothes. The Underworld might me hot, but the Floating Island is not. You can actually freeze your toes there. Like I said, a fun place.
So, did we convince you to pick the Underworld as your holiday destination? Not yet?
Then don't forget to tune in next time, as I'm sure the luxury hotels, hot saunas, and an amazing view will enslave you.
